Satsuki wields the ghost diary

The Ghost Diary was a diary written by Satsuki's mom, Kayako, when she was a student at the school. In the diary, Kayako made detailed notes about all the ghosts she defeated. She also often drew a picture of the ghost. When she left the school, she hid the diary in the back of the picture of her mother the principal. The picture is on a wall in the old schoolhouse.

When the kids flee Amanojaku, they hide in that room, and their cat Kayo paws at the picture, leading Satsuki find to the diary.

Episode 20 - Ouma

"For those of the Kamiyana bloodline, who have made this land their home for generations and whose calling has been to put evil spirits to spiritual sleep, the greatest test is fighting the Spirit of Vengeance, Ouma. The reason for this is, most ghosts will not be resurrected as long as their places of spiritual sleeping aren't defiled, but even after being put to sleep, Ouma stores his spiritual power and keeps coming back. In addition, Ouma is very much able to control things around him, and he even revives ghosts from spiritual sleep and controls them. That's why, no matter what happens, he must be put to spiritual sleep."
"Spiritual sleep method: I surrounded him with flames from torches, and then chanted the spell using all of my spiritual powers to channel it, and put him to spiritual sleep in the bell at the temple."
