Ghost Stories has twenty main ghosts which are the main antagonist for each episode. Several other ghosts have minor roles, and may reappear in several episodes.

- Kuchisake-onna - The original 3rd Episode is Am I Beautiful? Kuchisake-onna. But the episode has been deleted.
Possessions[]
Some people or animals were possessed, or commanded by the main ghosts.
- Mio's rabbit in the 9th Episode was possessed by Shirotabi through a dark ceremony.
- The Taxi Driver in 10th Episode was one of the Anamaneki spirits, and entrapped victims for the Anamaneki.
- Shizuko is a living version of Jibakurei, in the 14th Episode. Literally an uenasy spirit that came away from the hereafter back for complete his unresolved wish.
- Shinobu Matsuba was possessed, or reanimated, or used as an avatar, or something, by the spirit of Yamime in the 15th Episode. She was a schoolmate of Satsuki's mother who went missing under suspicious circumstances.
- Keiichirou's cat Kaya is possessed by Amanojaku from Episode 1 until released in Episode 20.
